Where to Find Prespawn Bass After Cold Fronts

Where to Find Prespawn Bass After Cold Fronts

The prespawn bass fishing season coincides with volatile spring weather and regular cold fronts. Post frontal conditions slow bass activity and often reposition fish. Professional angler Davy Hite explains how to find shallow prespawn bass after a cold front moves through and how to get bites using paddle tail swimbaits with a slow and steady retrieve.

Bass usually don’t move back out to wintering areas after a spring front, so rather than make big moves (shallow to deep water), Davy recommends making mini moves relative to spawning flats. If you’re a boat fisherman, use your fish finder to identify subtle changes in depth and cover like ditches or pockets in the grass adjacent to where bass spawn. Hite instructs how to fish swimbaits through these areas to convert inactive bass into biters.
